• HeRA undergraduate student Alex Shaffer wins the Best Magnetosphere–Ionosphere Coupling Poster award at the annual Geospace Environment Modeling workshop, held in San Diego, CA.

• HeRA graduate student Mei-Yun Lin is awarded the Raj Mittra Outstanding Research Award, which is presented to a doctoral student who has demonstrated excellence in research in electromagnetics.

• Former graduate student Huizi Hu (May 2021) wins the Harold L. Olesen Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching by Graduate Students for the 2020-2021 academic year. This award is given to recognize an outstanding effort in undergraduate teaching.

• Prof. Ilie selected by the International Space Science Institute (Bern, Switzerland) to lead an multi-disciplinary international team to investigate atmospheric loss of heavy elements on current and geological scales, involving processes starting from surface-air interactions, atmospheric chemistry, circulation patterns, ionization by solar radiation, and ionosphere-magnetosphere and solar wind interactions. • HeRA graduate student Mei-Yun Lin has been awarded the 2021 NASA FINESST Fellowship. Mei-Yun will be studying the transport and energization of atmospheric molecular ions as they are overcoming the gravitation bound and escape to space.

This award is presented to a doctoral degree candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering who has demonstrated excellence in research in the areas of electromagnetics or antennas.
