Building A Career After Graduation

Abstract:

Yu Huang will present his experience of transitioning from academia to industry. He will discuss the differences and commonalities between these two and share advices for students who wanted to seek positions in industry. In addition, he will do a showcase of how space science is evolving with cloud computing”

Bio: Yu Huang, now a software development engineer at Amazon Web Services, completed both his B.S and M.S degree at ECE Illinois. His bachelor research, advised by Prof. Lara Waldrop, focused on airglows and published an article (Evidence for Radiative Recombination of O+ Ions as a Significant Source of O 844.6 nm Emission Excitation) on JGR. His master thesis, advised by Prof. Raluca Ilie, titled “ Decision tree application to satellite measurement and analysis of exospheric neutral densities”, explored the role of neutral dynamics in the evolution of ring current and the terrestrial magnetosphere as a whole using various techniques in collaboration with Dr. Elena Kronberg from University of Munich.

 Yu is now building a career at Amazon Web Services as a Software Development Engineer, working to help enterprises customers in accelerating their adoption on cloud computing services.
